This  life-size brown bear is one of the crochetdermy creatures crocheted by the artist Shauna Richardson and now exhibiting in ‘Power of Making’ at the V&A in London till Jan 2012. I highly recommend it!

Manualidades subversivas

Este bordado en punto de cruz me llamó especialmente la atención, un bordado auténticamente subversivo del oficial inglés Alexis Casdagli, prisionero de guerra en un campo nazi. Entre símbolos y una leyenda intranscendente sobre la finalización del trabajo bordó una serie de puntos y guiones que forman un mensaje en morse con las frases "God save the King" y "Fuck Hitler". Su trabajo se expuso en los cuatro campos por los que pasó durante cuatro años y sus guardianes nunca descifraron el mensaje.

Crafting Subversive 

After six months held by the Nazis in a prisoner of war camp, Major Alexis Casdagli was handed a piece of canvas by a fellow inmate. Pinching red and blue thread from a disintegrating pullover belonging to an elderly Cretan general, Casdagli passed the long hours in captivity by painstakingly creating a sampler in cross-stitch. Around decorative swastikas and a banal inscription saying he completed his work in December 1941, the British officer stitched a border of irregular dots and dashes. Over the next four years his work was displayed at the four camps in Germany where he was imprisoned, and his Nazi captors never once deciphered the messages threaded in Morse code: “God Save the King” and “Fuck Hitler”  (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/sep/03/tony-casdagli-father-stitching-nazis?INTCMP=SRCH )

A  mi pesar, publico hoy un nuevo "Se me enamora". A mi pesar porque se estaba consolidando como un post del viernes (aunque el #2 se publicara inexplicablemente en jueves...) y como llevo callada unos días, pues un "se me enamora" siempre queda bonito.
